As a production sound mixer, I’m always looking for ways to speed up my workflow on set. When you’re working under pressure, even small improvements in efficiency can make a huge difference. One setup I’ve been experimenting with is combining the Elgato Stream Deck with Zaxcom Nova Touch using a plugin called SuperMacro.
This setup allows me to trigger actions inside Nova Touch directly from my Stream Deck — from enabling tracks to opening note windows and activating custom headphone presets.
In this blog, I’ll break down how it works, what the limitations are, and why it can seriously improve your workflow once properly configured.
What is SuperMacro?
SuperMacro is a plugin for Stream Deck that allows you to automate mouse clicks, keyboard inputs, and sequences of commands.
The interesting part is that it can capture the exact X and Y coordinates of your screen. That means you can tell Stream Deck to click specific buttons inside software like Nova Touch.
Essentially, Stream Deck becomes a hardware controller for software that normally only works through touchscreen or mouse interaction.
How It Works
After installing SuperMacro, you can create text-based macros that tell Stream Deck where to click on the screen.
A simple example looks like this:
Button 1
HOME
{{MOUSEXY:91,47}}
{{LBUTTON}}
This command moves the mouse to the coordinates 91,47 and performs a left mouse click.
You can also chain multiple actions together.
Example:
Button 2
ENTER NOTE
{{MOUSEXY:91,47}}
{{LBUTTON}}
{{MOUSEXY:383,817}}
{{LBUTTON}}
{{MOUSEXY:896,231}}
{{LBUTTON}}
In this example:
- The macro opens the Notes window
- Selects the note field
- Activates edit mode
All with a single button press on the Stream Deck.
Saving Your Macros
All shortcuts can be saved as text files and linked directly to buttons inside Stream Deck.
Once linked, Stream Deck reads the commands through the SuperMacro plugin and executes them in sequence.
This means you can create fully customized workflows for Nova Touch.
What Can You Control?
Basically, anything clickable inside Nova Touch can be automated.
Some examples from my own workflow:
- Enable or disable tracks
- Open metadata windows
- Create note shortcuts
- Trigger custom headphone presets
- Navigate menus faster
- Adjust settings without touching the screen
- Build repeatable workflows for common tasks
Once you start building macros, the workflow possibilities become surprisingly powerful.
The Biggest Advantage
The real strength of this setup is speed and consistency.
Instead of navigating menus manually during a hectic shoot day, you can create one-button solutions for tasks you repeat constantly.
It takes time to build the system, but once configured properly, it can make operating Nova significantly faster and more comfortable.
Especially when working alone or under pressure.
