I grew up in the small village of Strijen, near Rotterdam. My father is Dutch and my mother is Surinamese. I inherited a lot from both cultures. I grew up there with my older brother and younger sister, in a place where I had the space to discover who I am.
Music played a big role in my life from an early age. As a child, I was always busy with sound. I took apart old amplifiers to understand how they worked. Later, that interest shifted toward making music. At first, I wasn’t very good at it, but by doing it a lot, I kept improving.
During my studies at the Grafisch Lyceum in Rotterdam, I started making music more seriously. That is where I discovered my strengths, and my interest kept growing. At the same time, I realized that it was not only music that attracted me, but sound in a broader sense. Sound recording, in particular, fascinated me.
I found it remarkable how you can capture high-quality sound on location. At the Film Academy, I learned that sound recording is not only technical, but also creative and narrative. As soon as you connect sound to a story, it becomes more complex and more meaningful. The way you approach sound can truly add to the audience’s experience of the story.
I graduated from the Netherlands Film Academy in 2018. Since then, I have worked on documentaries, fiction films, series, and commercial productions. I have continued to develop my expertise and gained a great deal of hands-on experience.
I enjoy sharing my knowledge with directors, producers, and the new generation of sound professionals. I work with focus and dedication, and with a lot of love for the craft.
I now live with my family in The Hague, close to the beach.
It is a place where I can recharge after work and spend time with them.
